"Studies - small square overlays"

This set is an interesting off-shoot of my work which: takes a successful element within a large piece and miniaturizes it; or tests new combinations of colours together, feeding back in turn to the larger work. It completes the circle of my painting process. When re-using paint mixing containers I use the opportunity to experiment with unusual new combinations, and do come across promising opportunities which can be picked up in one of these small studies.
I was originally intending to expand on the number of these small 20cmx20cm squares, to allow for personal choice and grouping, but my work has grown in scale so this jewel-like set of nine is complete and final.
They were originally shown at ArtTrek in the grounds of the lovely Marwood Garden where they turned a stroll into a journey of visual discovery. They have since been subject to some overpainting as you will now see...
